Hello!  Today I thought I’d share the wonderful world of Hot Stone Reflexology with you.  Now if you’ve been following me for any length of time you will already know how big a fan I am of reflexology, which 15 years on still amazes me with the results it gets for both physical symptoms and emotional distress as well helping you to relax and re-balance.  Now as the days get colder and shorter, the added benefits of hot stones into the session, takes reflexology to a different level.

As the name suggests Hot stone reflexology is the technique of applying pressure to your reflex areas on the feet or hands with heated stones to bring about a state of deep relaxation and stimulate the body’s own healing processes.  The hot stones are also used along your spine and body depending on the individual to aid relaxation and reduce muscle tension.

The ancient healing art of stone therapy using various Reflexology techniques and warm stones relaxes the body at its deepest level and is effective in creating harmony and balance.  The subtle energies of stones introduced into a treatment calm the senses, relax muscle tension and promote a meditative state.

The heat from the stones penetrates to a deeper level, bringing about physiological changes as well as well as influencing the body’s internal energy flow aka Chi, therefore bringing a balance to both body and mind.

The benefits of hot stone reflexology are numerous, here are some of them…

Your Treatment

Your treatment will start with a consultation to ensure I tailor the session to your needs on the day and if you are following a wellness plan, to ensure we are moving towards your goals.  With the soft music playing in the background, the soft light of candles flickering, I will ask you to get up on my heated couch, arranging any hot stones around your body to help you relax and release muscle tension, before your treatment begins using a blend of hot stones and hand movements to stimulate reflex points on your feet and lower legs.  Many of my clients gently fall asleep and awake after the session feeling like they have had a great nights sleep!

After Your Treatment

Afterwards I encourage you to take plenty of rest to relax and allow your body to continue with its healing.  Drinking plenty of water will assist with your body’s detoxification process and to reduce any soreness and fatigue after your treatment.  To cut down on your intake of stimulants such as alcohol, tea and coffee. Avoid a heavy or spicy meal after your treatment, eat lightly for the rest of the day to encourage your body to concentrate on natural healing and detoxification.

After your session you may feel sleepy or tired, and if your muscles were very tense you may feel short-term aching or muscle soreness, this will be followed by release of tension in your muscles.  Sometimes you may feel a bit emotional, this is natural as your body releases tension from the muscles and your body starts to heal itself.  You may have an increase in urination this is due to your body cleansing itself of toxins.

Or you may just feel completely relaxed and ready to take on the world again!
